Ivan Choong freered1_thumb_thumb

For: Family, Music

image

Never one to follow a conventional path, Ivan entered the local performing arts scene in 2012 with a role in Dream Academy’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Company (Directed by Hossan Leong). Since then he has had the fortune to work, learn from and interact with leading local industry players. Working across multiple disciplines including theatre, opera, and film, Ivan has appeared in operas by the Singapore Lyric Opera, conducted music workshops, and interviewed film directors and actors (including Anthony Chen and Teo Yann Yann).

Though relatively new to stage, singing has been a passion for as long as he can remember. Over the years, Ivan has trained with various teachers and established performers including Amanda Colliver (Australia) and Patrice Micheals (USA). Music, especially musicals, has been a fundamental love and component of his work. Believing that a singer is as much an actor and vice versa, it is with great pleasure that he will have a chance to share how great musicals, like great movies, have a common singular goal: to tell great stories.

When:

24 MAY 2015, SUN

Time:

7.30pm – 8.15pm & 8.45 – 9.30pm

Lee Kuan Yew Exhibition free1

For: Family

To commemorate the Life and work of our founding father, Lee Kuan Yew, The National Museum of Singapore has extended its exhibition on Mr Lee Kuan Yew till May 24.

This memorial exhibition chronicles the life and political career of Singapore’s first Prime Minister and founding father Lee Kuan Yew. It also highlights the ideals and convictions that shaped Mr Lee and his generation of leaders.

Through a selection of photographic images and audiovisual recordings, as well as artefacts from the National Collection, the exhibition begins with Mr Lee’s formative years as a law student at Cambridge and his early involvement in the anti-colonial struggle.

It also traces his political career from the formation of the People’s Action Party, through his Prime Ministership, to his final years of service as Senior Minister and Minister Mentor. Mr Lee’s political biography is inextricably linked to Singapore’s own journey from British colony to merger with Malaysia to Separation and independence.

This exhibition chronicles that journey and pays tribute to his contributions. This exhibition will enable visitors to remember and reflect on the solid foundation that he built for Singapore.

What might we be able to envision and aspire to? What worlds could we imagine for ourselves and create for others? With interactive and immersive artworks and hands-on activities at every turn, Imaginarium offers creative space where inspiration can bloom freely, and joyfully!

Da Vinci: Shaping the Future

For: Arts, Family

Original masterpieces from one of the world’s most celebrated geniuses, Leonardo da Vinci, is now shown in Southeast Asia for the first time in this landmark exhibition at ArtScience Museum™.

Da Vinci: Shaping the Future is a journey through the work and legacy of the most celebrated artist and scientist of all time, Leonardo da Vinci. Presenting original masterpieces by da Vinci for the first time in Southeast Asia, the exhibition focuses on the Codex Atlanticus, da Vinci’s largest notebook.

Featuring groundbreaking designs, stunning artistic sketches and pioneering technological innovations, the Codex Atlanticus is the basis for an exploration of five key areas of da Vinci’s mastery: mathematics, natural sciences, architecture, technology, and music.  Original paintings by the School of da Vinci are presented in the centre of the exhibition, while the original pages of the Codex Atlanticus are displayed at the end.  Interwoven throughout the journey are five contemporary art installations, including three new commissions, which reveal how da Vinci’s ideas and thinking remains strikingly resonant today.

Combining his original works, with innovative contemporary design, interactive exhibits, technology, film and contemporary art, the exhibition presents rich insights into da Vinci’s art, science, technology and his fascination with nature.  As the pioneer of what has become known as systemic thinking, da Vinci’s approach to interweave connections among different disciplines, mark him out as a figure centuries ahead of his time.  Although he was born more than 500 years ago, da Vinci’s genius, creativity, and unique approach continue to inspire and shape the future we live in.

Urban Art

For: Arts, Family

With Urban Art, Opera Gallery intends to bridge the gap between nature and industry by presenting artworks with a fusion of both creativity and the essence of city life. This exhibition aims to demonstrate how both of these elements are able to adapt and bind to each other, creating exquisite, transcendental gems of the 21st century that suit both urban and suburban locations.

As art encroaches back into urban dwellings, we are presented with an artificial reimagining of nature. Metal structures stimulate organic life forms; felled wood is reanimated, creating mythical beats that surge with life. As these organic and man-made concepts collide, they are brought to life in a cutting-edge display.

Camp Magic

For: Children (3-12 Years Old)

The goal of Camp Magic has always been to provide children with a safe, fun environment where they are regularly invited to explore through an enormous and inspiring variety of activities.

Each child’s “gateway” to creating is activated in any number of ways. For some children, it’s the simple act of freeing themselves to learn a new skill like hoola hooping, stilt walking, or swing pois, while for other children it may be painting a picture, searching through piles of re-cycled junk, singing a song, or listening to a story.

Camp Magic is filled to the brim with amazing opportunities for your child to dig into their imaginations with a group of wonderful facilitators, and other children who are all there for the same reason… to have fun.

Children can join the camp for one to five weeks, each one offering a new and different focus.
The main items up for offer each week are:

Indoors: Incredible stories told by professionals, drama games, puppetry, songs, cooking, cool crafts, collage and painting, an enormous “junk room” (a true favourite), movement, dance, performance.
