Disney on Classic

This is an event Disney fans are waiting for. Following 12 years of sold-out performances in Japan, Disney on Classic ~ A Magical Night is finally arriving in Southeast Asia and Singapore for the first time for the whole family to enjoy.

This full length concert will showcase the most beloved tunes from the famed Walt Disney Studios songbook, performed by 8 international singers and Singapore’s very own Metropolitan Festival Orchestra under the baton of legendary Disney music maestro, Brad Kelley.

Favourite Disney memories come alive during the performance with original movie footage projected overhead on a large cinematic screen, and specially designed lighting and staging effects for that extra sprinkling of magic!

Featuring the timeless music and scenes from Disney’s Snow White, Cinderella, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, The Little Mermaid, Tangled and Frozen, don’t miss this magical treat to relive the treasured Disney moments we have all loved for a lifetime.

Istana Open House

(For Children and Family)

Istana

Admission to the Istana grounds is free for Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents. Other visitors are required to pay an entrance fee of $1 per person. Entrance to the grounds is via the main gate at Orchard Road. Opening hours are usually from 8.30am to 6.00pm.

There will be a variety of performances on the grounds during the Open House. For an entrance fee of $2, visitors could tour selected function rooms in the Istana building and view a special display of gifts presented to the President and the Prime Minister. There are also guided tours of the Istana building, conducted by the Preservation of Sites and Monuments (PSM) volunteers.

Istana souvenirs are also sold at the Open House. All proceeds from the sale of the souvenirs and the entrance fees collected are donated to charity.

Notes to Visitors:

1. The following items will not be allowed within the Istana grounds for security reasons:
· Pointed and sharp objects (e.g. knives of any size, forks)
· Flammable items (e.g. lighters)

2. To ensure a safe and enjoyable visit for all visitors, and to prevent damage to the premises, the following activities will not be allowed within the Istana grounds:
· Wheeled sports (e.g. cycling, roller blading)
· Littering
· Smoking
· Consumption of alcoholic drinks
· Pets (except for guide dogs)

3. No storage facilities will be provided. Security personnel reserve the right to turn away visitors who bring along items that are not allowed.

4. All visitors will need to go through security screening prior to entering the Istana grounds.

5. The sale of tickets to enter the Istana Main Building will close at 5.30pm, subject to crowd conditions.

Istana Nature Guided Walk

(For Family, Nature)

Sign up for the Nature Guided Walk during the Istana Open House on Hari Raya Puasa. This guided walk is a collaboration between the President’s Office and the National Parks Board (NParks), which will showcase the Istana’s flora, fauna and biodiversity.

The guided walk starts from 10am to 4pm, and is conducted hourly. Please look out for signs on the Istana grounds to find out where you can register for the guided walk.

Date Night Divas: Dawn Ho

Dawn Ho is a jazz, bossa nova and samba singer who began singing at the tender age of eight. With a sophisticated and vibrant style spiked with a tinge of sexiness, Ho has performed internationally and released a debut album All in Good Time, consisting of covers of jazz classics. She is accompanied by Oliver Von Essen on keys, Benjamin Thia on drums and Hiroaki Maekawa on bass.

 

Oliver von Essen

Oliver von Essen is a keyboardist and organist who has worked with international artists such as Ruth Brown, Rodney Jones, Rick Stone and the Brooks Giles Quartet. He got his start in jazz at age 16, and went on to become a member of the house band at New York’s Blue Note Jazz Club, He has also recorded music on two piano trio albums and for various artists.

 

Hiroaki Maekawa

Hiroaki Maekawa has performed and collaborated with artists from all over the world and performed at several international jazz festivals. He has also produced and released two original albums with his jazz rock band Tokyo Blue.

 

Benjamin Thia

A drummer and aspiring musician, Benjamin Thia had his first taste of music at the age of 12. He has performed at various events including the Sun Festival, Singapore International Jazz Festival and Mosaic Music Festival. Besides performing, Thia also shares his passion for music as a music instructor.
