Slide@T3 – Tallest Slide in Singapore and All Airports
I had heard it on the TV news two weeks ago that there is a new attraction at the Changi Airport which is opened to public from 27 May 2010 . This is also the answer to Quiz 3 which Ros correctly guessed it.
In the news, it looked interesting and looked quite exciting especially when it was mentioned as the tallest slide in Singapore and the tallest in any airport around the world! At 12 metres tall, the jumbo twister slide is the height of four standard basketball hoops stacked on top of one another. Riders can expect to experience a top speed of 6 metres/second while going down the slide.
Being an adventurous me (ahem), I was then thinking this is a ride I must try. One of the visitors of this blog, Mandy, also reminded me of this new place last week and make my determination stronger. Since, it was raining last Sunday, the only places I could go are the indoor attractions. Therefore, I decided to arm myself with my camera with fully charged batteries, visit this new attraction with my family and hope that it is not too crowded.
After taking our lunch at “Popeyes” at Changi Airport T3 Basement 2, we proceeded to The Slide. There are no signs of the location of the slide and after asking around, it was at one end of the T3. If you are going there, look out for the signboard that say “Train to City”, you will find The Slide just next to the escalators.
There are 2 slides. One for the younger children or less adventurous person. It is located at Basement 2 and it is FREE!!!! As with everything that is free, there is usually a long queue but the wait is not too long. The slide admit 1 person at any one time and only allow another when the person in front get out of the slide safely. Therefore the process is not that fast, you will need to have a bit of patience. Before you are allowed to enter any of the slide, you will need to sign a form that basically say you are acknowledging the possible risks. Yes, I need to sign twice for both low and high slides. Honestly, for this low slide, this should not be necessary as there is no or very small risk. The height requirement for the shorter slide is 1.1 metres tall.
The other one which is 4-storey high is for the braver. I am expecting to hear a lot of screaming and shrieks of excitement at the tallest slide in Singapore and in any airport around the world but I could not hear any screams. Either all the person are very brave or the slide is not exciting enough. I came to the conclusion that it was the later. The slide is not the fastest and not the steepest I have ever been. It is even less exciting than those you find in some of the public playgrounds. My son commented that if you need to go any faster, you need to pour a lot of oil on the slide
For some person, I notice the ride is jerky and they even need to push themselve forwards at some point of time. I have capture the whole process in the following video which shows the ride is quite short and not that fast and really NOT that scary.
I have captured the whole process of sliding down the 4-storey high slide in this you-tube video. Is the person in the tube, me? No, else how I can take this video in this angle? Anyway, enjoy:
The Slide@T3 is the latest addition to the diverse range of facilities at the world’s most-awarded airport and heightens Changi Airport’s growing popularity as a family weekend destination. I am sure it will attract a lot of visitors who are visiting the airport and will be a good place to go if it is raining, if you have not tried or when you are somewhere near there.

Haaziq, you are definitely good in guessing and very observant. It is not a easy guess if you have not been there but you managed to at least guess that it is a slide structure. Nice guess! =-X =-O =-O
