Changi Point Ferry Terminal

During my national services’ days,  I had used the old rundown jetties and old bumboat as a mean of transport between Singapore and Pulau Tekong.   However, in January 2005, the new Changi Point Ferry Terminal replaced the old one which provide better control on embarkation and disembarkation with better facilities.

Changi Point Ferry Terminal is not a place of interests by itself but it is the starting point for fun and quick getaways.  Nearby the Terminal is the beautiful Changi beach, the enchanting coastal walk and the popular Changi Village.  It is also the starting point for Pulah Ubin (Singapore Island) and Pengerang, a fishing town in Johor (Malaysia).

P1000816 To get to the bumboats, go down the stairs at the Terminal. As this Terminal also serves those going to Penggerang, Johor, be sure to join the correct queue if you are going to Pulau Ubin.

I have not been to Penggerang but the journey takes about an hour and costs S$8 or RM 15 per person, plus S$2 for a bike. There are semi-scheduled departures in both directions at 7 AM and 1 PM, and the last boats back leave by 4 PM. Once 12 people show up, the boat leaves.   I have put Penggerang in my must visit place and will write a review of that place once I have visited the place.   I learned that Penggerang is a favourite place for cyclists and also for food lovers.P1000809

If you are going to Pulau Ubin, just join the queue and the boats will leave when they have 12 persons.  It cost $2.50/person and carry a maximum of 12 passengers.  If there are less than 12 persons, you might have to wait a little while until enough people turn up. Or you can pay $30 and go straight away.   Bumboat operators run from sunrise to sunset. You can make special arrangements with the operators for trips after dark.

Groups of youngster looking for adventures using the Terminal as the starting point is a common sight.   I am going to make a review of Pulau Ubin soon, look out for it as it is an ideal getaway place or side-trips for Singapore.
