Singapore Garden Festival (SGF)

It’s The Sayang Sixties, Baby and Peranakan Puppet Show!
For: Whole Family
Held in conjunction with the The Night Festival you’ll be transported back to the 1960s at this year’s Sayang Sixties, Baby! Come down and enjoy FREE late night activities amid the Peranakan galleries and their special exhibition, Ramayana Revisited: A Tale of Love & Adventure. There will be late night activities like performances by acts Lunar Node, The Pinholes and Vanessa Fernandez.
Do not miss out the New World Peranakan Puppet Show while you are there. The Show is a kaleidoscope of action, songs and colourful characters which takes you on a trip down memory lane. No registration required but limited seating. I guess you could still stand and watch. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors will open 15-minutes before each performance.

Singapore Youth Festival 2010 Choral Presentation
For: Whole Family
The Singapore Youth Festival 2010 Choral Presentation highlights six outstanding local school choirs performances from the recent SYF Central Judging, presented by Ai Tong School, CHIJ Primary (Toa Payoh), Junyuan Primary School, Pei Chun Public School, Raffles Girls’ Primary School and St. Andrews’ Junior School. It will feature a wide range of children’s choral repertoire, from Asia to Africa, the standard Classics to newly composed works. The Hong Kong Children’s Choir, the guest choir of the Presentation, will showcase songs from their local culture. The finale will be the combined singing of all performers from the seven choirs under the baton of HKCC conductor, Kathy Fok.

200 Artworks 25 Years Exhibition

The Mega Flea Market 2

The Mega Flea Market is back with more vendors and expecting more people (20,000) to the event. There is also a section for people to play games and board games. The place would be turned into a carnival-lookalike and more lively and happening than before!

Big Carnival @ Marina Bay
For: Whole Family Editor’s Choice
To celebrate the official opening of the Marina Bay Promenade, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), is organizing a weekend filled with fun and exciting activities on 17 and 18 July 2010 at Marina Bay. Expect more than 80,000 Singaporeans and visitors will gather at Marina Bay to participate in games and water activities, and watch performances while enjoying the newly completed waterfront promenade.
For the first time ever, a movie screening will be held at The Promontory @ Marina Bay (next to NTUC Centre), offering a unique entertainment experience by the waterfront. “Avatar” will be screened under a huge marquee specially erected for the screening on Saturday, 17 July, at 8.30pm.
The Big Carnival @ Marina Bay is held in conjunction with The New Paper Big Walk @ Marina Bay on 18 July 2010. For the first time, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will flag off The New Paper Big Walk@Marina Bay at 7.30am on Sunday, 18 July 2010 at the Singapore Flyer.
Various events and activities will be held at different locations around Marina Bay including the Promontory@Marina Bay, the waterfront promenade along Marina Boulevard, and in the waters of Marina Bay. Street entertainers, energetic performances and the chance to explore the new waterfront promenade complete this world of experiences as Marina Bay comes to life. Everyone’s invited!

Youth Olympic Sports Carnival

Time for family sports! There will be 8 sports stations for boxing, table tennis, basketball, handball, fencing, and more for everyone in the family to have hands-on opportunities to try the different sports that will be played during 2010 Singapore Youth Olympic Games. There will also be a boxing demonstration on both days from 4pm to 5pm. Coloring activities will be at 3pm and 6pm where your kids’ creativity be rewarded with Eco Bags.

Cai Guo-Qiang: Head On

Cai Guo-Qiang is a renowned China artist who was the Director of Visual and Special Effects for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Cai Guo-Qiang will exhibit three of his groundbreaking works—renown installation Head On which consists of 99 life-sized wolf , Illusion II a two-channel video installation that also documents the explosive project of the same title; and Vortex, a gunpowder drawing depicting hundreds of thousands of wolves chasing one another in a circular motion.
